2Instructional expenditures are current expenditures for activities directly associated with the interaction between teachers and students. These include teacher salaries and benefits, supplies (such as textbooks), and purchased instructional services. New York City Public Schools includes guidance counselor costs in their instructional figures.
NOTE: The universe for this table includes outlying areas, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Department of Defense schools. Detail may not add to totals because of rounding.
