The study was requested by the Food and Consumer Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The information in this statistical analysis report is intended for use by the USDA's Team Nutrition, whose mission is to improve the health and education of young people by creating innovative public and private partnerships that promote food choices for a healthful diet through media, schools, families, and communities.

The report focuses on information about the placement of nutrition education in the school curriculum, the content of nutrition instruction, the coordination of the nutrition education efforts, and the various resources available for nutrition education in public schools.
