¹ Injury includes bruises or swelling; cuts, scratches, or scrapes; black eye or bloody nose; teeth chipped or knocked out; broken bones or internal injuries; knocked unconscious; or other injuries. Only students who reported that their bullying incident constituted being pushed, shoved, tripped, or spit on were asked if they suffered injuries as a result of the incident.
² Race categories exclude persons of Hispanic ethnicity. Other includes American Indian, Alaska Native, Pacific Islander, and more than one race.
NOTE: "At school" includes the school building, on school property, on a school bus, or going to and from school. For more information, please see appendix A. Location totals may sum to more than 100 because students could have been bullied in more than one location. In 2007, the unit response rate for this survey did not meet NCES statistical standards; therefore, interpret the data with caution. Due to a redesign of the methods used to measure urbanicity, estimates for 2007 locales are not shown. For more information, please see appendix A (301 KB).
