| NOTE: Prekindergarten students who are enrolled in private schools that do not offer kindergarten or higher grades are not included in this analysis. Catholic schools include parochial, diocesan, and private Catholic schools. Affiliated religious schools have a specific religious orientation or purpose but are not Catholic. Unaffiliated schools have a more general religious orientation or purpose but are not classified as Conservative Christian or affiliated with a specific religion. Nonsectarian schools do not have a religious orientation or purpose. An elementary school has one or more grades of kindergarten (K) through grade 6 and does not have any grade higher than grade 8. A secondary school has one or more of grades 7–12 and does not have any grade lower than grade 7. A combined school offers both elementary and secondary education and typically has one or more of grades K through grade 6 and one or more of grades 9–12. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding. For more information on geographic region and school locale, see Appendix C - Commonly Used Measures. For more information on the Private School Universe Survey, see Appendix B - Guide to Sources. |
