1 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is a voluntary assessment program designed to develop, recognize, and retain accomplished teachers and improve overall teacher effectiveness. NOTE: Financial incentives include cash bonuses, salary increases, or different steps on the salary schedule. This indicator presents data on teachers in traditional public schools. Charter schools and private schools are not included in this figure. Teachers whose districts did not provide information on pay incentives (7.3 percent) are not included in this analysis.
