Every month we will give you a math/statistics brain teaser that lets you test your
knowledge with a fun problem.
This Month's Challenge: Carnival Candy
At a carnival, Ethan and his brother collected 53 pieces of candy all together.
Each of them ate 5 pieces of candy that evening. The next day, Ethan had 19 pieces
How many pieces did Ethan's brother have left?
Step 1: Find the amount of candy left the next day.
Ethan and his brother both ate 5 pieces. Add to figure out the amount they ate on
the first evening.
Subtract the pieces they ate from the amount of candy they started with.
Step 2: Find the amount of candy Ethan's brother had left.
Together, the brothers had 43 pieces left the next day. 19 of those pieces were
Ethan's. Subtract Ethan's leftover candy from the total.
Ethan's brother had 24 pieces of candy left.
