NAEP Technical DocumentationLong-Term Trend Public School Sampling Frame

The table below shows the number of public schools on the long-term trend frame, for each of the eight regions defined by NAEP region and Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) status (the primary PSU strata: see Final PSU Sample). These counts are simple totals, not weighted counts. Also presented are aggregations of the estimated nine-, thirteen-, and seventeen-year-olds across these schools, using as a weight the inverse of the PSU probability of selection. These weighted aggregations are unbiased estimates of the numbers of age-eligible students in public schools in each NAEP/MSA status region.
