1 In each M197T session, the NAEP assessment administrator played a paced audiotape with pre-recorded directions. This paced tape administration was one aspect of the NAEP design in its earlier year. Since 1984, the NAEP design has implemented a Balanced Incomplete Block (BIB) spiral design. The naming of this session type—M197T—was drawn from the booklet number used for these sessions.
