Creation of the Database

			Merging Files Creating the Master Catalog

The data processing conducted by the NAEP materials and scoring contractor for each assessment results in the transmittal to the NAEP data analysis contractor of four data files for each grade assessed. These four data files are based on data collected from the following sources:

• student booklets;
• teacher questionnaires;
• school characteristics and policies questionnaires; and
• students with disabilities/limited-English-proficient (SD/LEP) student questionnaires.

In addition to these files, sampling weights must be included in order to make valid statistical inferences about the population of students and schools included in NAEP assessments. These files are merged into the final database.
