In addition to overall results for students, NAEP assessments are reported for certain student groups. Based on statistically determined criteria, results for available groups are generated only when sufficient numbers of students and adequate school representation are present. Some of these groups are unavailable for certain years, grades, or jurisdictions. (See NAEP Rules for Reporting Scale Score Results.) The major reporting student groups are as follows:

• gender,
• race/ethnicity,
• type of location,
• parents' education level,
• eligibility for the National School Lunch Program,
• type of school, and
• region of the country.
