Instructions: Read down the column directly under a jurisdiction name listed in the heading at the top of the chart. Match the shading intensity surrounding a jurisdiction's abbreviation to the key below to determine whether the average science scale score of this jurisdiction is higher than, the same as, or lower than the jurisdiction in the column heading. For example, in the column under Indiana, Indiana's score was lower than Montana, Massachusetts, Vermont, and North Dakota, about the same as all the states from Ohio through Kentucky, and higher than the remaining states down the column.
