Major Findings

  • At grade 4, there were no statistically significant changes from 1996 to 2000 in students' average scores among any of the racial/ethnic subgroups.
  • At grade 8, the average score for American Indian students was lower in 2000 than in 1996. The apparent changes in scores among other racial/ethnic subgroups were not statistically significant.
  • At grade 12, White students had a lower average score in 2000 than in 1996. The apparent changes in scores among other racial/ethnic subgroups were not statistically significant.
