National Subgroup Results

In addition to presenting information about all students' performance, NAEP looks at the achievement of various subgroups of students. Examining these results reveals how these students have performed in comparison to each other in the year 2000 and whether they have progressed since 1996.

When reading these results, it is important to keep in mind that there is no simple, causal relationship between membership in a subgroup and science achievement. A complex mix of educational and socioeconomic factors may interact to affect student performance.
