Major Findings

  • At grade 4, any apparent changes between 1996 and 2000 in the performance of students who were either eligible or not eligible for the free/reduced-price lunch program were not statistically significant.
  • At grade 8, the average score for students who were not eligible for the program increased in 2000, while those who were eligible had lower scores in 2000 than in 1996.
  • At grade 12, students who were not eligible for the program scored lower in 2000 than 1996.
