Higher Reading Scores for Those Who Read 11 or More Pages Daily--Grade 4
- Fourth-graders who reported reading 11 or more pages daily for school and for homework
scored higher than students who read fewer pages daily.
- A greater percentage of fourth-graders reported reading 11 or more pages daily for
school and for homework in 2000 than in 1994 and in 1992.
| The NAEP 2000 reading assessment included background questions
that asked students about their reading experiences at home and at school. While the findings may suggest a
positive or negative relationship between performance on the reading assessment and certain activities, it is
important to remember that such relationships are not necessarily causal--there may be diverse factors that
play a role in reading ability.
