Students with disabilities and/or English language learners assessed with accommodations, by type of primary accommodation, grades 4 and 8 public and nonpublic schools: 1998–2005

The table below displays the percentages of SD and ELL students assessed with the variety of available accommodations. It should be noted that students assessed with accommodations typically received some combination of accommodations. The numbers and percentages presented in the table reflect only the primary accommodations provided. For example, students assessed in small groups (as compared with standard NAEP sessions of about 30 students) usually received extended time. In one-on-one administrations, students often received assistance in recording answers (e.g., use of a scribe or computer) and were afforded extra time. Extended time was considered the primary accommodations only when it was the sole accommodation provided.

NOTE: SD = students with disabilities. ELL = English language learners. Students identified as both SD and ELL were counted only once under the combined SD and/or ELL category, but were counted separately under the SD and ELL categories. Prior to 2005, students were identified as either ELL or non-ELL; in 2005, students were identified as ELL non-ELL, or formerly ELL.
