The NAEP 1996 Technical Report


This Internet edition of The NAEP 1996 Technical Report incorporates all changes listed on the errata sheet distributed with the print edition.


Included in this technical report of the 1996 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is information pertaining to the administration, scoring, and analyses of the long-term trend assessments in science, mathematics, reading, and writing. The reader is cautioned that results from the 1996 long-term trend assessment in writing are currently under review. Consequently, some of the information contained in this technical report regarding the long-term trend writing assessment should be considered preliminary or partial. In addition, Chapter 17, "Data Analysis for the Long-Term Trend Writing Assessment," and some writing data in the appendix do not appear in this version of the report.
