Racial/Ethnic Gaps in Average Mathematics Scores, Grades 4, 8, and 12: 1990-2000
SOURCE: National Center for Education Statistics, National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), 1990, 1992, 1996, and 2000 Mathematics Assessments.
Major Findings
In 2000, white students had higher scores, on average, than black or Hispanic students.
Although white, black, and Hispanic students at grades four and eight made gains since 1990, the large gaps between these subgroups' performance have remained relatively unchanged.
See national mathematics achievement-level results by race/ethnicity for grade 4, grade 8, and grade 12.
