Major Findings

  • At grade 4, the average score for Black students increased from 168 in 1994 to 181 in 2001.
  • At grades 8 and 12, there were no statistically significant changes in average scores among the five racial/ethnic groups from 1994 to 2001.
  • At all three grades, White students, American Indian students and Asian/Pacific Islander students had higher average scores in 2001 than their Black and Hispanic peers.
