NOTE: NAEP reports assessment results in terms of student performance standards called "achievement levels," which are set by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB). The three levels for each grade are Basic, Proficient, and Advanced. See more information about the geography achievement levels.

Results are based on administration procedures that did not permit accommodations.

Major Findings

There was no statistically significant change between 1994 and 2001 in the percentages of twelfth-graders at or above the Basic and Proficient achievement levels.
In 2001, 25 percent of twelfth-graders performed at or above the Proficient achievement level.
