In 2013, from January 28 to March 8, the NAEP program administered assessments in mathematics and reading. Results for the nation will be reported at grades 4, 8, and 12. Results for all states will be reported for grades 4 and 8. Thirteen states will receive state-level results for grade12
(270 KB).
In addition, some schools and students were selected to participate in the NAEP Trial Urban District Assessment (TUDA) in mathematics and reading, the technology and engineering literacy (TEL) pilot, and other special studies.
Also in 2013, a special NAEP/PISA linking study was conducted in a limited number of states. The study will establish a link between NAEP and the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), in addition to investigating student growth across grade levels in NAEP mathematics. In the participating states, high schools that were already selected for NAEP had additional samples of students in grades 9, 10, and 11 that took the NAEP mathematics assessment.
During the 2012–2013 school year, NCES recruited for, administered, and will release the results of national and international assessments, as well as other longitudinal studies; take a look at the schedule for NAEP and other NCES assessment activities
(1.2 MB).
During the 2011-2012 school year, NAEP assessed the performance of students at ages 9, 13, and 17 in mathematics and reading as part of the NAEP long-term trend assessment.
In addition to the long-term trend assessments, grade 12 students were assessed in economics, and grade 4 students participated in a pilot study of the computer-based writing assessment.
From January 24 through March 4, 2011, NAEP conducted its first national computer-based assessment in writing at grades 8 and 12. Learn more about the assessment and what students saw. Also administered were the NAEP mathematics and reading assessments at grades 4 and 8, the NAEP science assessment at grade 8, and the National Indian Education Study.
In addition to the scheduled NAEP assessments, NCES planned a special research study to link the NAEP grade 8 mathematics and science results to the results of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Results for the mathematics and reading assessments are available now, while the results from the linking study are planned for release in late 2012.
More information about the NAEP-TIMSS 2011 International Linking Study will be forthcoming. Learn more about TIMSS and learn about three other international assessments with results that are used in conjunction with NAEP results.
In the meantime, check out the new International Data Explorer (IDE), an offshoot of the NAEP Data Explorer. The IDE allows you to compare the assessment results of our nation's students with results of students from other countries. Results for TIMSS, as well as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) are now available in the IDE.
