Note: These files contain all items included in the long-term trend assessment booklets. However, it should be noted that the files have been updated to identify the subset of the items on which students can use a calculator. The items identified as using a calculator do not contribute to the scale used to report results. These items are labeled as "Calculator item--not scaled." The mathematics results reported from the long term trend assessment do not include any items involving the use of a calculator. The reason these items are excluded from the scale is that in the mid 1980's the type of calculator used with these items was no longer manufactured. Attempts to use newer calculators resulted in the items being non-comparable to previous administrations of the items. However, it was necessary to continue administering these items so as to not disrupt the overall NAEP long term trend in mathematics. These items (with newer calculators) have continued to be administered, but not counted, in the overall test results. In addition to the calculator items there are a few other items indicated below that (due to psychometric considerations) are not included in the overall NAEP long term trend scale in mathematics. These items are labeled "Item not scaled."
