SEA Data Use Working Group

Purpose: Increases in the quality and quantity of education data, especially through the implementation of statewide longitudinal data systems, provide a wealth of information for education research.  This working group aims to assist state education agencies (SEAs) as they consider how to manage and service requests from external researchers for education data.

Current Tasks: The SEA Data Use Working Group is developing a document that will facilitate the exchange of data between SEAs and researchers.  The document will present a set of “core” practices and principles for managing data requests in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the education agency and the research community.  The document will address SEA concerns about data privacy and the use of research results, and will provide document templates to facilitate data requests.

Meeting Schedule: The working group will hold its next meeting in Spring 2012.
