This document, the third installment of a four-part Forum Guide series on longitudinal data systems (LDS), addresses the management of data. It focuses primarily on data governance, providing not only a definition and overview of the topic, but also a practical framework to help education agencies implement an effective data governance structure and process to ensure the quality and utility of the data. The book also explores ways to ensure data quality through staff training, validation procedures, and establishment and adherence to data standards. Finally, the document discusses the challenges of securing the LDS to protect individual privacy and the confidentiality of education records.
