Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (fr_JuvenileResidentialPlacementSurvey)

Description

The Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement is a survey conducted by U.S. Census Bureau for the US. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The survey is completed every two years. The form collects data on a selected day for a sample of 4000 juvenile facilities. The form documented is Form CJ-14 (1-17-2006).


Data Set Items

    Adjudicated Persons Assigned Beds Status - The yes/no response for whether any persons under age 21 had assigned beds in this facility on the survey date (February 22, 2006) because they were charged with or court-adjudicated for an offense. Include persons under age 21 who were charged or adjudicated for 1) any offense that is illegal for both adults and underage persons; 2) an offense that is illegal in the state for underage persons but not for adults (e.g., running away, truancy, incorrigibility, curfew violation, and underage liquor violations); or 3) any offense being adjudicated in juvenile or criminal court including a probation or parole violation.

    Agency Name - The name of the larger agency to which the facility is related.

Business Address - The business address of the person completing the form, including number and street or P.O. Box/Route number.

Count of Adjudicated Persons Under Age 21 - The count of persons under age 21 with assigned beds in the facility, specifically because they were charged with or court-adjudicated for an offense. Include in the count persons under age 21 who were charged or adjudicated for 1) any offense that is illegal for both adults and underage persons; 2) an offense that is illegal in the state for underage persons but not for adults (e.g., running away, truancy, incorrigibility, curfew violation, and underage liquor violations); or 3) any offense being adjudicated in juvenile or criminal court including a probation or parole violation.


Count of Non-Adjudicated Persons Under Age 21 - The count of persons under age 21 with assigned beds in the facility, for reasons other than offenses, including persons who were temporarily away but had assigned beds on the survey date (February 22, 2006), not including staff.


Count of Persons Over 21 with Assigned Beds - The count of persons age 21 or older who had assigned beds in this facility on the survey date (February 22, 2006), including persons who were temporarily away.


Count of Persons Under 21 with Assigned Beds - The count of persons under age 21 with assigned beds in this facility on the survey date (February 22, 2006), including persons who were temporarily away but had assigned beds, and not including staff.


Count of Persons with Assigned Beds - The count of persons with assigned beds in this facility on the survey date (February 22, 2006).


Date admitted - The date (month number, day number, four-digit year) that the person was admitted to the facility for the selected most serious offense. If more than one date applies, enter the earliest one for the selected offense.


E-mail Address - The electronic mail address for the person completing the survey form.


Facility Mailing Address - The mailing address of the facility.


Facility Name - The name of the facility.


Facility Overflow Detention Status - A selection (yes or no) denoting whether the facility housed overflow detention population on the survey date. Overflow detention population refers to those young persons who are temporarily placed in a non-detention center because no beds are available in a detention center.

Fax Number - Area Code - The area code of the facsimile telephone number for the person completing the survey form.

Features to Confine - The selections for features intended to confine young persons within specific areas.

Non-Adjudicated Persons Assigned Beds Status - The yes/no response for whether any persons under age 21 had assigned beds in this facility on the survey date (February 22, 2006) for reasons other than offenses. Include persons under age 21 who were assigned beds for: 1) non-offense reasons (e.g., neglect, abuse, dependency, abandonment, or similar reasons); 2) mental helth problems (unless the offense committed required treatment as part of the court order); 3) running away, being truant or incorrigible, or violating curfew (if these behaviors are not considered illegal in the state); or 4) voluntary or non-offense related admissions.
