IPEDS Student Financial Aid Survey (fr_IpedsStudentFinancialAid)

Description

Student financial aid data are collected for full-time, first-time degree- and certificate seeking undergraduate students. Data are collected regarding federal grants, state and local government grants, institutional grants, and loans. Data collected include: number of students receiving each type of financial assistance; and average amount received by type of aid.


Data Set Items

    Any Aid Received Average Amount - The average amount of any grants received by full-time, first-time in the fall cohort who received any grant during the full academic year.


Any Federal Aid Received Average Amount - The average amount of federal grants received by students In the fall cohort during the full academic year. The fall cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort. Federal grants include grants provided by federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Education, including Title IV Pell Grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG). Federal grants also include need-based and merit-based education assistance funds and training vouchers provided from other federal agencies and/or federally-sponsored educational benefits programs, including the Veteran's Administration, Department of Labor, and other federal agencies.


Cohort Descriptors Comment - A text comment to provide context for responses to the student financial aid cohort count responses.


Full-time, First-time Undergraduate Students Count - The count of full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduate students for the reported year. For institutions reporting on a fall cohort, the count is as of the fall. For institutions reporting on a full-year cohort, the count is for the 12-month period from September 1 through August 31 of the following year.


In-district Students in Cohort Count - The number of full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort who are in-district. An in-district student is a legal resident of the locality in which he/she attends school and thus is entitled to reduced tuition charges if offered by the institution.


In-state Students in Cohort Count - The number of full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort who are in-state students. An in-state student is a legal resident of the state in which he/she attends school.


Institutional Grants Average Amount - The average amount of institutional grants or scholarships/fellowships received by students in the fall cohort in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. Institutional grants include scholarships and fellowships granted and funded by the institution and/or individual departments within the institution.


Other Federal Grants Received Average Amount - The average amount of other federal grants received by fall cohort students in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. Other federal grants include Academic Competitiveness Grants, Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG), DHHS traning grants (aid portion only), DOD grants, Department of Veterans Affairs grants, and the federal portion of the College Work Study Program (FWS) and State Student Incentive Grants (SSIG). Matching portions for any of these programs are not included.


Out-of-state Students in Cohort Count - The number of full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort who are out-of-state students. An out-of-state student is not a legal resident of the state in which he/she attends school.


Pell Grant Recipient Student Count - The count of undergraduate students who received a Pell grant during the reported year.


Pell Grants Received Average Amount - The average amount of Pell grants received by students in the fall cohort during the full academic year. The fall cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort.


State/Local Government Grants Average Amount - The average amount of state or local government grants or scholarships or waivers received by students in the fall cohort in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. The average amount includes the state portion of State Student Incentive Grants (SSIG).

Student Federal Loans Average Amount - The average amount of federal student loans received by students in the fall cohort in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. Federal loans to students include federal loans that must be repaid to the lending institution for which the student is the designated borrower. Student loans do not include PLUS and other loans made directly to parents or persons other than the student.


Student Loans Average Amount - The average amount of student loans received by students in the fall cohort in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. Loans to students include any monies that must be repaid to the lending institution for which the student is the designated borrower. Student loans include Title IV subsidized and unsubsidized loans, and all institutionally- and privately- sponsored loans. Student loans do not include PLUS and other loans made directly to parents.


Student Other Loans Average Amount - The average amount of other student loans received by students in the fall cohort in the entire academic yeanumber of students in the fall cohort who received other student loans in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. Other loans exclude federal loans. Other loans to students include monies that must be repaid to the lending institution for which the student is the designated borrower. Students Receiving State/Local Government Grants Count - The number of students in the fall cohort who received state or local government grants or scholarships in the entire academic year. The cohort includes full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall. State or local grants and scholarships include recipients of State Student Incentive Grants (SSIG) because there is a state portion contributed.


Students Who Received Any Aid in Cohort Count - The number of full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates in the fall cohort who received any financial aid. The count includes students who received any Federal Work Study, or grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, the institution, or other sources known to the institution, including students who only received private grant aid (e.g., Rotary Scholarship).


Undergraduate Students Grant Aid Total Amount - The total amount of grant aid dollars received by all undergraduate students, from the federal government, a state or local government, the institution, and other sources known by the institution.


Undergraduate Students Total Count - The count of undergraduate students as of fall for institutions reporting on a fall cohort, or for the 12-month period September 1 through August 31 for institutions reporting on a full-year cohort. The count includes full-time and part-time undergraduate students.
