IPEDS Fall Enrollment Survey (fr_IpedsFallEnrollment)

Description

IPEDS Fall Enrollment survey for 4-year academic institutions, using both old and new race ethnicity, reporting advanced professional degrees as "first-professional" degrees.


Data Set Items

    Age Category - A code to designate the age group of the student cohort being reported.

    Code Set:

    • 1 - Under 18
    • 10 - 65 and over
    • 11 - Age unknown/unreported
    • 2 - 18-19
    • 3 - 20-21
    • + 6 More Codes...


    CIP Code - A six-digit code in the form xx.xxxx that identifies instructional program specialties within educational institutions. Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes are a taxonomic coding scheme for secondary and postsecondary instructional programs.


Codes - The FIPS code identifying the state or outlying area where the cohort of students had legal residence when they were first admitted to the institution.


Count of Fall First-Time Undergraduate Students - The headcount of first-time degreee/certificate-seeking undergraduate students entering the institution for the first time in Fall 2008.


Count of First-Time Undergraduate Count by State of Residence and Undergraduate Status - The count of first-time undergraduate students in the Fall semester, reported by undergraduate status code and state of residence at admission.


Count of Full-Time Graduate Instructional Staff - The count of full-time instructional staff teaching graduate or professional programs in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students. Examples of professional programs include medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, and public health.


Count of Full-Time Graduate Students - The count of full-time students enrolled in graduate or professional programs in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students. Examples of professional programs include medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, and public health.


Count of Part-Time Graduate Instructional Staff - The count of part-time instructional staff teaching graduate or professional programs in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students. Examples of professional programs include medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, and public health.


Count of Part-Time Graduate Students - The count of part-time students enrolled in graduate or professional programs in which faculty teach virtually only graduate-level students. Examples of professional programs include medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, and public health.


Count of Students Graduating within Past 12 Months by State of Residence - The count of first-time undergraduate students in the Fall semester who graduated from high school or received a GED in the past 12 months, reported by state of residence at admission.


Fall Enrollment Count by CIP, Student Enrollment Level, Race/Ethnic Group, and Sex - The fall enrollment count reported by CIP Code, Student Enrollment Level, Race/Ethnic Group, and Sex.


Freshman Graduating Status - An indicator that the institution has or does not have first-time, degree/certificate-seeking undergraduate students who graduated from high school or received their GED within the past 12 months.

Freshmen Question Comment - A textual comment to provide context for the response to a question regarding whether the institution has any first-time, degree/certification-seeking undergraduate students who graduated from high school or received their GED within the past 12 months.


Full-Time Fall 2007 First-time Bachelor's Cohort - The headcount of full-time first-time fall 2007 undergraduate students. The count reported is the institution's offical reporting date or October 15. Student's full-time status identified as of Fall 2007.


Full-Time Undergraduate Cohort Exclusions - The count of students in the Fall 2007 full-time undergraduate cohort who left the institution between Fall 2007 and Fall 2008 report dates for any of the following reasons: died or were totally and permanently disabled; serve in the armed forces (including those called to active duty); serve with a foreign aid service of the federal government (e.g., Peace Corps); or serve on official church missions.


Full-time Undergraduate Fall 2008 Remaining Cohort - The headcount of full-time Fall 2008 undergraduate students from the Fall 2007 full-time undergraduate cohort who are still enrolled at the current year fall official fall reporting date or October 15. A student's full-time status identified by the Fall 2007 category.


Part-Time Fall 2007 First-time Bachelor's Cohort - The headcount of part-time first-time fall 2007 undergraduate students. The count reported is the institution's offical reporting date or October 15. Student's part-time status identified as of Fall 2007.


Part-Time Undergraduate Cohort Exclusions - The count of students in the Fall 2007 part-time undergraduate cohort who left the institution between Fall 2007 and Fall 2008 report dates for any of the following reasons: died or were totally and permanently disabled; serve in the armed forces (including those called to active duty); serve with a foreign aid service of the federal government (e.g., Peace Corps); or serve on official church missions.


Part-time Undergraduate Fall 2008 Remaining Cohort - The headcount of Fall 2008 students from the Fall 2007 part-time undergraduate cohort who are still enrolled at the current year fall official fall reporting date or October 15. A student's full-time status identified by the Fall 2007 category.


Race Ethnic Groups - A code which identifies the race and ethnic groups for the cohort being reported. Notations of old, new, and both old and new refer to use of old race/ethnicity categories (prior to 2007 Guidance) or "new" categories in response to 1997 OMB guidance, and U.S. Department of Education guidance of October 19, 2007.

  • 1 - Nonresident alien (both old and new)
  • 10 - Asian (new)
  • 12 - Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander (new)
  • 13 - White (new)
  • 14 - Two or more races (new)

Residence FIPS State Codes - The FIPS code identifying the state or outlying area where the cohort of students had legal residence when they were first admitted to the institution.


Sex(Click the link to view the associated Common Attribute) - A code which identifies the cohort reported as either men or women.

Student Enrollment by Level and Status, Age, and Sex - The fall enrollment count reported by Student Level and Status, Age Category, and Sex.


Student Enrollment Level and Status - A code which designates the academic level (undergraduate, graduate), student status, and the enrollment status (full-time or part-time) of the student cohort being reported.

Code Set:

  • 1 - Full-time, first-time, degree/certificate-seeking undergraduate students
  • 11 - Full-time graduate students
  • 15 - Part-time, first-time, degree/seeking undergraduate students
  • 16 - Part-time, transfer-in, degree/seeking undergraduate students
  • 17 - Part-time, other degree/certificate-seeking undergraduate students

Student Faculty Ratio Comment - A textual comment to provide context for student-to-staff ratio data. The comment is posted to the College Navigator website.


Student Level and Status Code - A code which designates academic level (undergraduate, graduate) and the enrollment status (full-time or part-time) of the student cohort being reported.

  • 2 - Part-time, undergraduate
  • 3 - Full-time, graduate
  • 4 - Part-time, graduate
