How to Navigate the Data Model

In order to access the Data Model Browser, click on the Data Model Browser link in the Tools and More Information box on the Home Page of this website. The Data Model Browser web pages display the Education Data Model content. The sections below explain the functions of the Data Model Browser.

The vertical list on the left of the screen allows for quick navigation up and down the class branches and to easily move from one branch to another. Every clickable item in the list opens up a sub-list (a lower level branch). Each list item represents a class or a subclass until the lowest level item, representing the entity is reached at the end of a branch (called the leaf node). The picture below show an Entity selected in the menu.

Education View

The Education View presents the NEDM in a top-down format based upon six major education areas. While other parts of this website present perspectives directed toward technical users of the Model, this perspective on the Data Model is tailored toward educators. These areas represent different perspectives from which items and relationships in the model can be generated. Together, the following six areas make up the education enterprise. There is some overlap among these major areas in the ways in which they interact to support the overall education enterprise.

The figure below presents the six major education functional areas. Click on one of the six boxes to drill down to more detailed education functions and then to NEDM Entities. At this time, the School Formulation and the Teaching and Learning areas are active. Check back later as we update the rest of the areas.
