Implementation of a Teacher Data Sharing System

Nevada proposed to work under the state cooperative system contract for FY00 to make it possible for entities such as school districts and universities to electronically access Nevada teacher data within the limits of security and legal restrictions. The project would include providing the necessary hardware, software, and personnel training, and work to consolidate several sources of teacher data that come into the Nevada Department of Education, including applications for licensure, district reporting on teacher characteristics, university transcripts, and student testing records.

The major objectives of the project were to:

• Implement a web-based solution-this would include such tasks as determining the security requirements, developing a security database design, purchasing and installing the database, configuring the database on the server, and all security and database maintenance
• Provide training for Department staff in the requirements and possibilities of using the web-based solution
• Create an ongoing steering or users’ group to review progress, discuss problems, and respond to future developments related to this project

Work for this project was scheduled to begin in September of 2000 and conclude in the summer of 2001.
