Data Survey Task Order

The New Hampshire State Department of Education received task order funding to conduct a survey of all school districts in the state of New Hampshire regarding data collections, methods of data collection, requests for data from official state and federal agencies, and requests for data from associations. The results of this survey would be used to find a “common denominator” for data collection and assess the feasibility of a centralized data warehouse. Preparation for this data warehouse was the primary goal of this project.

The major tasks of this project included:

  • Surveying common data collections for each school district in New Hampshire
  • Surveying common data collection processes used by New Hampshire School Districts
  • Surveying all data sent to the most common data collection agencies
  • Surveying all common methods of data collection
  • Identifying and aligning common data elements, where practical, with data elements in the Student Data Handbook and Common Core Data
  • Developing a preliminary proposal for the organization of the data

Work on this project was scheduled to begin in January 2002 and conclude by February 2003.

Safe School Data Elements

The New Hampshire Department of Education (NHDE) received task order funding to help the state collect data on school safety as mandated under new state laws. Task order funding would be used for two major components, first to allow New Hampshire to gather data not currently collected on safe schools for inclusion in the state mandated School District Profile report. Second, task order funds would assist the state in creating a reporting format that would make the data readily available and useful for virtually all New Hampshire citizens. Data collected on security included information on:

  • Parent participation in school
  • School safety plan
  • Programs in place for students
  • Policies for school safety
  • Security procedures

The reporting format developed would be web-based and require consultation with specialists in public communication and web design. Work for this task order was scheduled to begin in January 2000 and conclude by May 2000.
