In fall 1998, full-time postsecondary faculty who taught at least one undergraduate class taught an average of three undergraduate classes (worth approximately 10 credit hours), with a total of 86 undergraduate students in these classes. They spent about 11 hours each week teaching undergraduates in class and generated a total of 309 undergraduate student classroom contact hours.9 Most of these faculty members (77 percent) lacked a teaching assistant for their undergraduate classes. |
