Graduate enrollment and parenthood were negatively related for both men and women: 12 percent of men and 16 percent of women who did not enroll in a graduate program within 4 years of bachelor’s degree receipt became parents during that time. In contrast, 9 percent of men and 10 percent of women who enrolled did so. Women who enrolled in first-professional or doctoral programs were less likely to marry and become parents than were those who enrolled in master’s programs.
