Level 1: Able to answer questions involving familiar contexts where all relevant information is present and the questions are clearly defined. Level 2: Able to interpret and recognize situations in contexts that require no more than direct inference, extract relevant information from a single source, and employ direct reasoning for literal interpretations of results. Level 3: Able to execute clearly described procedures, interpret and use representations based on different information sources, and develop short communications reporting their interpretations, results, and reasoning. Level 4: Able to work effectively with explicit models for complex concrete situations that may involve constraints or call for making assumptions, select and integrate different representations, reason with some insight, and construct and communicate explanations and arguments based on their interpretations and actions. Level 5: Able to develop and work with models for complex situations, work strategically using broad, well-developed thinking and reasoning skills, and communicate their interpretations and reasoning. Level 6: Able to conceptualize, generalize, and utilize information, link different information sources and representations, and formulate and precisely communicate actions and reflections regarding findings and interpretations.
Illustrates how a country compares with the OECD area as a whole. Computed by taking the OECD countries as a single entity to which each country contributes in proportion to the number of 15-year-olds enrolled in its schools.
Refers to the mean of the data values for all OECD countries, to which each country contributes equally, regardless of the absolute size of the student population of each country.
As a result of a printing error, the mean performance in mathematics may be misestimated by approximately 1 score point. The impact is below one standard error.
NOTE: Possible scores range from 0 to 1,000. Standard errors appear in parentheses. Detail may not sum to totals because of rounding.
